  In the LEED

Superintendent Steve Parry has achieved LEED accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council.  LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED AP) are building industry professionals who have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building, the LEED Rating System and possess the knowledge and skill set required to facilitate the LEED certification process. Steve joins Project Managers Christian Armata, Jon Grasso, Scott Lombardi, and Tom Tassinari as cm&b team members who have achieved LEED AP accreditation. Congratulations, Steve!

Site Visits Provide Popular Learning Experience

Having a job site within walking distance of a high school turned into a very positive experience for the cm&b team and students from Brockton (MA) High School interested in pursuing construction related careers.

A collaborative effort between cm&b and Brockton High School officials allowed students from Brockton High School's CAD Engineering and Architecture classes to visit the Bernardi Honda/Hyundai site on a weekly basis to augment their classroom experience. The visits, the brainchild of cm&b President Sean Fahy, began in November 2010 and continued through the end of the project which coincided with the end of the school year.

On a typical visit, Assistant Project Superintendent Steve Parry took the core group of 15 students and their teachers on a 30 to 40 minute site walk to explain what work had been completed since the previous week's visit, what each trade's responsibility was, and what and why different construction techniques were being used.

"Their range of interest was very varied," explained Steve Parry.  "There were a few students interested in becoming engineers and they were very interested in who pays for what, the order in which things are built, and how inspections work.  There were others who were more interested in the construction end of things and they were typically curious about the tools that were used, how long the process takes and why we build what we do the way we do."

The feedback on the collaboration was very positive from Brockton High School officials.  Word about the weekly visits made its way to city hall prompting Brockton Mayor Linda Balzotti to attend one of the students' visits to witness the exchange first hand.

"This was a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved," said Fahy. "This collaboration was the perfect way for cm&b to invest in the Brockton community and its youth, and to potentially pique the interest of a student or students prompting them to continue their education in a construction related field. It really is a win-win situation."

Project Superintendent Gerry Coughlin agreed the experience was valuable.  "I would recommend this process for any cm&b job with close proximity to a high school."
