Food Processing Plants
In addition to working exclusively with the Whole Foods construction department on their retail stores throughout New England, cm&b provided construction management services at Whole Foods Market’s Bakehouse and Commissary . Both of these production facilities provide their respective products to the entire New England Whole Foods network daily. The Commissary also services the New York and New Jersey areas. Project highlights include:
- Performed pre-construction program management and general construction services for two intensive upgrade assignments at production facilities in Medford and Everett, Massachusetts.
- At the existing Whole Foods commissary located in Everett, MA, cm&b worked with the commissary staff to develop a phased construction plan that would allow the necessary improvements with minimal disruption to production operations. The work took place in two major phases, operating around the facility’s two shift 6 to 7 day production schedule. In addition to the original scope of work cm&b identified and provided solutions to pre-existing structural issues that were discovered during the demolition process. Working with Whole Foods and the building owner, cm&b provided economically viable solutions that did not detract from schedule or affect facility operations. The nature of the products produced at the commissary required an on site USFDA inspector with whom we worked closely to ensure compliance with applicable codes. Both phases were completed on schedule with minimal disruption to the commissary’s production schedule.
- Existing Whole Foods Bakehouse required significant replacement and enhancement to their HVAC systems to resolve ongoing issues with operating temperatures. In addition to the mechanical improvements, extensive structural work was required to support new large units on the existing roof system. A second use facility that had previously undergone multiple additions and renovations, the project required significant re-engineering from the cm&b team to accommodate for several unforeseen impediments and allow for the installation of supporting steel. Collaborating with onsite production managers, cm&b completed work inside the facility during non peak hours of the multi shift seven day work schedule.
“The entire cm&b team is comprised of some of the most dedicated, trustworthy and cost conscious professionals in the industry. Whether their assignment is a department renovation or a new store from ground up, I know we will receive the same exceptional level of consistency and construction management. Most importantly, I know that the cm&b team is always looking out for Whole Foods Market’s best interests.”
